|“As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness.”|
|Henry David Thoreau quotes|
It seems so, well, simple, doesn’t it? Simplify your life! Faced with a challenge, many people would not know what to do in order to simplify. What does that say about society today?
Let me ask you this: what do you absolutely need to continue on?
Whatever you don’t list as an answer to that question is then, by extension, unnecessary. You now have taken the first step towards simplification.
Do you need two cars? Do you need a home as large as the one you have, or could you live in something smaller?
Do you need three sets of dishes? A big screen television? A library of movies on DVD? Twenty pairs of shoes? And on and on we go!
Better yet, do you need credit cards? Do you need a club membership? Do you need to eat out twice a week? None of these things are necessary; they are all luxuries to be sure.
Let me toss out a suggestion: cut up your credit cards right now! How many out there would be willing to do that? If not, why not? Bank checking cards do the same thing, namely provide instant payment, so why not just carry a checking debit card and no credit cards?
It all comes down to priorities!
